Chubb 1882 Signs First Piece of Business

WARREN, NJ, June 18, 2010 - Chubb 1882 has written its first piece of business, a marine hull risk, at its new Lloyd's operation.

Rob Cage, active underwriter of Chubb 1882, said, "This is a historic moment for Chubb. It marks the next big chapter in the development of the company's European business."

Chubb Managing Agent Ltd. has also appointed Christopher Smith as its chief operating officer of Chubb 1882.  Based in London, Smith will be responsible for leading the operational activities of the syndicate and will report to Michael Casella, chief executive officer of Chubb Insurance Company of Europe SE.

"What attracted me to this role was the opportunity to develop one of the few non-turnkey syndicates in the Lloyd's market," said Smith.  "Working at Chubb 1882 means I am in the enviable position of marrying Chubb's strength with the unrivalled Lloyd's operating environment."

Smith, an operations specialist, joins Chubb from AVGVSTVS Ltd., a management consultancy company, where he was a director for three years.  Prior to AVGVSTVS Ltd., Smith spent his entire career in Lloyd's beginning as a Lloyd's broker claims technician in 1987.

The member insurers of the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies form a multi-billion dollar organization providing property and casualty insurance for personal and commercial customers worldwide through 8,500 independent agents and brokers. Chubb's global network includes branches and affiliates throughout North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia
