Denis Whelan

Denis Whelan was appointed General Counsel, Europe, Eurasia and Africa in October 2020.  In this role, he oversees the company’s legal, compliance and company secretary functions in the region. 

Denis joined ACE, which was acquired by Chubb in 2016, in 2010 and has held various leadership roles across the legal and compliance function - most recently as Deputy General Counsel. Prior to joining Chubb, he was a Partner at the law firm Barlow, Lyde & Gilbert from 2008 having joined the firm in 1997 as an Associate. Denis started his career at McKenna & Co in 1994 before joining Clyde & Co in 1996.  

Denis studied at Guildford College of Law and holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from St Catherine’s College, Oxford.
