4 tips to get the most out of your staycation

As the outlook for overseas travel remains uncertain, many may continue to look towards domestic travel as it is easier to plan and safer. It is also easy to see why staycations have been on the rise since the pandemic – while you are still in sunny Singapore, you get a change of scenery while cutting out the time and stress of planning. If things go south, home is just a stone’s throw away. In this article, we’ll share some of our tips to help you get the most out of your staycation.

  1. Tip #1: Plan your hotel booking.

We recommend booking well ahead of time to ensure getting reasonable rates, especially if you aim to take advantage of long weekend holiday periods or even to coincide with the school holidays. Do look out for promo codes or time sale discounts that hotels may give out before you make a booking.

  2. Tip #2: Fill your itinerary with things you want to do.

You’d be surprised how many people go on vacation and take part in activities they don’t enjoy.  Sure, it might not be a foreign country, but there are plenty of things you can do during your staycation to keep yourself entertained. You could go on a walking tour at heritage sites or visit a museum. If you like adventure, you could always enjoy a guided kayaking tour with your family or push your physical boundaries to the limit by trying an indoor or outdoor obstacle course with friends.

Whatever you choose, make sure it’s something YOU are interested in.

  3. Tip #3: Make sure you stay safe!

Make sure you bring enough masks, hand sanitisers and wet wipes for your whole family. Practice safe distancing at all times and avoid crowds as much as possible. If you still want to use popular facilities like the gym and pool, be sure to book a time slot prior to your trip as most hotels have implemented booking slots to maintain safe distancing and prevent overcrowded at these facilities. If you plan on staying longer than 2 days, you can request regular housekeeping for the duration of your stay for extra peace of mind.

Don't forget to sanitise your hotel key cards when you check in!

  4. Tip #4: Protect your holiday.

Even the best laid out plans can fail. Regardless of how long your stay is, you need to have a contingency plan in case something goes wrong.

Having a relevant staycation insurance plan in place can ensure that you're covered for the many what-ifs that could disrupt your plans (e.g. accommodation or activities cancellation).
