Chubb Life Platinum sponsor of FSC conference

September 2023

Chubb Life was proud to be a platinum sponsor of the 2023 Financial Services Council (FSC) conference held in Auckland last month.

This key event for the New Zealand financial services sector featured a range of prominent speakers. There were plenty of opportunities for lively debate, with many speakers challenging each other’s perspectives. Alongside regulatory keynote addresses from Clare Bolingford Executive Director, Regulatory Delivery, Financial Markets Authority (FMA) and Christian Hawkesby, Deputy Governor, financial stability, Reserve Bank of New Zealand / Te Pūtea Matua, political keynotes were given by Hon Grant Robertson, Christopher Luxon and Nicola Willis.

The discussion panels and breakout sessions provided insights into a range of topics including climate change modelling, promoting financial literacy, consumer wants and expectations, and how the private health insurers can innovate in collaboration with the public system.

Some highlights for the Chubb Life team

  • Dr Andrew Tait the Chief Scientist for NIWA, talking about climate change and how sophisticated the modelling has become over the past 20 years.
  • The breakout session on Health Insurance - Future of Public & Private innovating together.

Some key takeaways included:

  • currently we spend money on ill health (not health)
  • we need to define some minimum health care rights
  • each panel member agreed that if they could change one issue with a magic wand, it’d be dental/oral health.

There was an engaging debate during the Building Consumer Confidence panel discussion. Some key takeaways included:

  • we need to stop feeling awkward talking about money
  • to build financial literacy, we need to start with children regulators and the industry need to work better together.
